In 2007 Tummel self-produced the popular instructional Play-Along CD, "Fundamental Djembe," and released his all-original, instrumental world percussion CD, "Waterfire," in 2009. He is currently producing a four-volume instructional Call & Response series of recordings, “Fundamental Djembe SOLOS.”

Cameron has recorded with Arthur Hull, Margie Heart, and Noah Churchill, and has performed with Abdoulaye Diakite, Babatunde Olatunji, Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, and Jose “Pepe” Danza’s ensemble, Drum Prayers.

Bio

Cameron Tummel is globally renowned as a stress relief specialist, composer, teacher, and recording artist. Mr. Tummel has hosted interactive musical events for more than 400,000 participants, and received tremendous acclaim by colleges, universities, professional organizations, schools and communities throughout America and abroad.

 

Tummel's professional training included thirteen years with master facilitator trainer Arthur Hull, and a nine-year apprenticeship with grand master drummer Abdoulaye Diakite. His background also includes nineteen years of academic and musical study of the rhythms and cultures of West Africa, and three drum sabbaticals to Senegal.

 

Cameron began studying hand drumming and hand percussion in 1990 with teachers Babatunde Olatunji and Arthur Hull. He has studied with dozens of drum teachers from Senegal, Guinea, Nigeria, the Congo, Cuba, Brazil, and the United States, and is currently studying with Senegalese master drummer Malik Sow.

 

When in residence at his home in Santa Barbara, California, Cameron teaches drum classes on Sunday afternoons. He also enjoys hiking, writing, composing, and surfing whenever possible.

Facilitator

Cameron Tummel's facilitation experience includes a thirteen-year apprenticeship with master facilitator trainer Arthur Hull, and a decade of employment by Arthur's company, Village Music Circles. He traveled globally during the years with VMC, hosting teambuilding events for dozens of premier corporations, including Bank of America, Google, Sprint and Toyota, and American universities such as Brandeis, Rutgers, Johnson & Wales, and the University of California at Berkeley.

 

Tummel moved back to Santa Barbara in 2004, and has continued to provide teambuilding and stress relief events for corporate clients like Patagonia, Mercedes Benz and the Young Presidents Organization. He is sponsored by the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation to provide musical instruction and leadership training for thousands of students in local public schools, and to facilitate professional development clinics for teachers and instructional assistants. Tummel is also the director of a master class and performance group, the SB HOT SHOTS Youth Percussion Ensemble.

 

Cameron's love of rhythmical music is obvious in his enthusiastic presentations. His expertise with adults, youth and community-oriented groups creates fun and inspiring experiences for people of all ages. In any situation, and with any population, Cameron delights in bringing people together to celebrate the richness of our communities, and to create unity through music.
